Annual Open House

The annual AWIS open house was held at Veralliance Campus Pointe in October. The event provided an ideal opportunity for current and prospective members for combining networking and understanding various AWIS committees. After an overview of AWIS San Diego chapter by the president Jenny Chaplin, the award winners were announced.

 

• Achievement in Innovation: Lawrence Fougeaurd and Corine Lau
• Rookie of the Year: Erin Dunn
• Achievement in Outreach or Community Service: Shauna McGillivray
• Oustanding Volunteer: Dody Sears and Grace Nakayama
• Leadership Service: Erica Stone and Anita Iyer
• President Award: Barbara Preston
• Career Development Award: Irene Chen and Judy French
• Long Service Awards: 20 years: Patricia Shaffer 15 years: Margery Johnstone and Grace Nakayama 10 years: Janice Payne, Victoria Cagle, Melanie, Wendy Freedman, Elizabeth Orr and Elaine Weidenhammer

The first Open House held by AWIS San Diego was in 2002. The purpose was to introduce our organization to the science community and to recruit new members by presenting our diverse events, activities and committees. It was a great success and has become one of the most important AWIS-San Diego events. Since 2003 the Open House is also our opportunity to recognize our most active and dedicated volunteers through the AWIS Awards.
