Doris
Slate joined Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research &
Development, LLC in San Diego in 1995 as a Director in the Business Development
group at Ortho Biotech. The next year she joined the Pharmaceutical Licensing
group and became the first Scientific Licensing Director (“finder”),
focusing on hematology and oncology products. In 2000 she was promoted
to Executive Director, and in 2003 to Vice President, Scientific Licensing
for Oncology/Hematology. During her time in Licensing, Doris has evaluated
a large number of in-licensing opportunities, led over 25 due diligence
teams, and provided scientific leadership in the successful licensing
efforts for YONDELIS from PharmaMar and more recently for VELCADE from
Millennium Pharmaceuticals. Doris holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.Phil.
and Ph.D. in Human Genetics from Yale University. Following Leukemia Society
of America postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford and Yale, she joined Pfizer
Central Research in 1981 as a Research Scientist in the Cancer Metastasis
Research Group working mainly on interferon inducers and oncogenes, especially
those encoding tyrosine kinases and ras proteins. She was recruited to
Syntex in 1986 to head the tumor biology drug discovery program, which
produced a compound, RS-33295-198, now in Phase III development at Lilly
as zosuquidar (LY-335979). She spent the last year of her Syntex career
in out-licensing as Associate Director, Licensing, and completed the deal
that led to Lilly’s acquisition of RS-33295. She then joined Berlex
in 1994 as a Strategic Research Unit Head, leading a team focused on cell
cycle targets, and also served briefly as Head, Technology Assessment
and Transfer for oncology drugs, before joining J&J. Doris has served
on several NIH study sections for cancer drug discovery, been a principal
investigator on an NCI-funded cooperative drug discovery program grant,
and served on or led several committees of the American Association for
Cancer Research. She is currently based at the Johnson & Johnson PRD
facility in LaJolla. |
Dr.
Tina Kuus-Reichel is currently a Director of Research
and Development in the Biomedical Research Division of Beckman Coulter,
Inc. Over the past 12 years she has been responsible for the management
of multi-functional teams for development of cell and serum based assays
for the diagnosis and management of human disease. The current emphasis
of her group involves the development of assays to provide clinical solutions
for immune monitoring for vaccine development and biotherapeutics. Dr.
Kuus-Reichel received her B.S. in Medical Technology from the State University
of New York at Buffalo and her doctorate in immunology and microbiology
from the Medical College of Virginia. She joined Hybritech, Incorporated
in 1986 after completing her post-doctoral work at Scripps Clinic and
Research Foundation. She has authored over 30 publications and has three
issued patents. |
Tammy
Garbett is a R&D Project Leader at Innercool Therapies,
a medical device company focused on inducing mild hypothermia surgery,
stroke, and heart attack procedures. Tammy manages product and process
development projects for catheters and disposables. Prior to joining Innercool,
Tammy was a product supply engineer with Procter and Gamble BabyCare division.
She received her Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering with a specialization
in Bioengineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA.
Tammy is also involved with Association for Women in Science (AWIS), Georgia
Tech Alumni Association, and American Heart Association. |
